Children's Bureau Auxiliary
Introducing the Auxiliary
In 1932, the Auxiliary to the Children's Bureau was organized to offer voluntary services and fundraising for the Children's Bureau, Inc.
Today, Auxiliary members continue their assistance working directly with children in group homes, helping staff with clerical work and organizing fundraising activities.
Children's Bureau is one of the oldest private, non-profit child and family service organizations in Indianapolis and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2001.
Mission Statement
The Auxiliary is dedicated to providing and assisting the
Children's Bureau, Inc. with funds and voluntary services
including direct involvement with the children, fundraising
activities, clerical work and interpreting the work of the
Bureau to the community.
Meetings and Committees
Meetings are held monthly (except in December)  from August to May. Options for working directly with clients and staff include serving on a group home committee or the clerical committee or volunteering at the Family Support Center with children in the crisis shelter. Members may also participate in several internal committees such as meeting logistics, the newsletter, or project study.
Fundraising
Fundraising events include the Angel Fund Patrons Drive, a raffle, and the Spring Fashion Show Luncheon & Blooming Boutiques. Each event is coordinated by a committee of Auxiliary members.
The thousands of dollars raised each year provide funds for refurbishing group homes, sending children to summer camp, assisting with special client needs, and staff education.
New Member Orientation
An information event is hosted each year to allow potential members an opportunity to meet active Auxiliary members and to learn about service opportunities on various committees. In addition, two orientation sessions enable new members to learn more about the Auxiliary and the work of Children's Bureau and to decide where they wish to volunteer their time.
Membership Responsibilities
New member responsibilities include completion of two orientation sessions, five hours of direct service, annual dues of $50.00, and attendance at as many monthly meetings as possible.
Active membership (second, third, fourth, and fifth year in the Auxiliary) responsibilities include 50 hours of service per year, annual dues of $50.00, and attendance at as many monthly meetings as possible.
Associate membership (sixth, seventh, and eighth year in the Auxiliary) responsibilities include 15 hours of service per year, annual dues of $50.00, and attendance at as many monthly meetings as possible.
Members fulfill their service hour requirement by serving on one or two committees and by assisting with other volunteer opportunities that arise throughout the year.
