Huge banners of smiling children on the outside of the new Gene Glick Family Support Center
let you know that this place is all about kids. Named for local developer and philanthropist
Gene Glick, the Family Support Center was completed in late 2009 and is home to many
Children’s Bureau programs, including:
The building includes many artistic elements with colorful tiles of children’s artwork on
its walls and a dramatic sculpture titled “Metamorphosis” in the lobby, an inspiring reminder
of Children’s Bureau’s life-changing programs and services. The full-size gymnasium and
multi-purpose room is a space where kids in all Children’s Bureau programs can enjoy games
and healthy living and fitness programs. Second-floor offices house the agency’s
administrative and executive staff on-site.
Through the Gene Glick Family Support Center, Children’s Bureau provides at-risk families
the tools they need in an environmentally-friendly and sustainable building — designed for
the future of Indiana’s children.

This state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facility replaces the older building that
previously housed the Family Support Center on the same grounds. One of just a handful of
children’s shelters in the Midwest, the Gene Glick Family Support Center is the first of
its kind in Indiana, offering preventive and support services for parents and caring for
children in a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The new building is green, too. LEED-certified, the Family Support Center has controlled
lighting and thermal systems, special parking places for fuel-efficient cars and carpool
vehicles, quick access to public transportation, and many other environmentally-friendly
features. Children’s Bureau will also use the new building as an education tool for green
living, cleaning and recycling.
