Father Engagement |
The Importance of Fatherhood - - Fathers Matter!
|
Our Father Engagement programs are a collaborative partnership between the Department of Child Service and
the fathers and families of children who are in the Child Welfare system. The focus of the program is to engage fathers
to increase contact with their children, improve their fathering skills, and connect them to Community resources
to strengthen the entire family.
Our goal is to work with fathers, both individually and in groups to strengthen their parenting skills, increase
contact with their children and help them be a better dad.
See the map (right) which shows the Indiana regions and counties served by Children's Bureau.

|
Make a donation of clothes, bus passes, gas gift cards or a financial gift to be used to assist our work with fathers. You
can volunteer your time to mentor a dad or come speak to our groups about your experiences as a struggling dad. You can
assist our dads with employment opportunities or trade skill development.
You may also serve on our local Advisory Committees which meets regularly to discuss resources, employment opportunities,
education resources and help our program develop our resource network.
|
We are seeking advisory committee members who would meet regularly to help evaluate community resources, find
financial resources, evaluate service delivery and help our program develop an enhanced resource network within
each community served.
We are looking for representatives from the faith based community, attorneys, work force development, law enforcement,
mental health providers, educational professionals and fathers who care to help and support dads.

The statistics of absent and/or unengaged fathers and the impact on children is
staggering. Fathers matter in the lives of their children.
The following statistics feature outcomes of children from unengaged, fatherless
households, compared to children whose fathers are involved. Children from unengaged fathers are:
|
|
- Five times more likely to live in poverty.
- Three times more likely to fail in school.
- Two times more likely to develop emotional and/or behavioral problems.
- Two times more likely to abuse drugs.
- Two times more likely to be abused and neglected.
- Two times more likely to become involved in crime.

When you actively get involved, you help us advocate,
educate, and empower our community’s fathers!
