LEAP

LEAP is an intensive, home-based counseling program designed to assist youth and their families with the transition of the youth back into their homes and communities from juvenile correctional facilities. LEAP is a partnership with the Department of Child Services through the Transition from Restrictive Placement program, along with the Juvenile Probation Department and the Department of Correction.
Focus
Reunification & Reintegration.  We work with the youth and their parents/guardians and other agencies to assist the client in returning to the family unit and the community in which they reside.
Services
We work with the youth and their family for the duration of their commitment to the DOC, and also for the duration of their time on parole/probation following their release from DOC, amounting to approximately one year of service with each family.
This is through case management, referrals, and approximately two hours a week of face to face contact with the client and his/her family.
Our Relationships
Children's Bureau currently has a contract with the Indiana Department of Corrections to provide aftercare services to youth and their families. Intake and case management will be a collaborative effort between the youth, parents or guardians, the Indiana Department of Corrections representative, and the LEAP counselor.
Other resources may include:
  • School / work liaison
  • Individualized Transition Plan and Monthly Reports
  • Parent Education and Counseling
  • Access to other Children's Bureau programs
  • 24-hour emergency support
  • Short term emergency shelter care referrals
