Transition to Independent Living |
"Transition to Independent Living"
includes several counseling and group home programs. The transition to living independently
can be difficult for any young adult, but it can be even more challenging for those who have
not grown up in a nurturing environment.
In addition to counseling services, Children's Bureau also offers group home facilities that
feature a family-like setting for young males
(Evans House).
These programs teach the life skills that these young adults will need to survive, once
they are living on their own.

Aftercare The Aftercare program is an intensive home-based program offering individual and family counseling for youth who have recently been discharged from foster care or residential care and are six months to one year from legal independence. Aftercare is offered at no cost to qualifying youth. |

Project Horizons Project Horizons is an eight-week, group education experience for youth ages 16 to 18 years old who are under the jurisdiction of the county. The focus of the Horizons program is to help youth acquire the skills needed for independent living. Project Horizons is offered at no cost to qualifying youth. |

Scattered Sites
With the assistance of a counselor, youth aged 17 who are soon to be emancipated acquire and maintain an apartment and furnishings. Participants are required to be employed full time or to attend school and be employed part time.

Pro-100
Pro 100 is a summer internship program that provides work and learning experiences for
economically-disadvantaged Indianapolis teens for 6 weeks every summer. Through this
internship opportunity, teens practice personal responsibility, develop basic life values,
and learn new academic, career and technical skills.
Pro-100 takes an integrated approach to training; this is to say that skills are taught
and applied in real-world scenarios. In addition, each section taught reinforces others
in a network fashion.

Evans House
Evans House offers an independent living environment for males ages 12 to 18. This program provides employment assistance, educational support and liaison services, build daily living skills building and a primary focus on transition towards self-sufficiency. Evans House works closely with the child, family and placing agency to prepare young men to work independently and gain the necessary skills to support themselves. The program provides around the clock awake staff to assist each youth in reaching their individualized goals. Additional services include individual and group counseling on site and family counseling as needed. The program provides psychiatric oversight as needed and works with a wide range of behavioral and psychiatric issues. Children attend public school or pursue a GED tract. Referrals accepted state wide.
