Welcome to Children's Bureau Volunteer Resources!
Thank you for your interest in volunteer opportunities with Children's Bureau! Our program organizes activities into four classifications: 1) Direct Contact Volunteers:
Direct Contact volunteers work hand-in-hand with our staff, providing services to our clients. As an example, volunteers may be organizing a Saturday activity for the children in the Children's Shelter, host a party for an adoption family, or working on life skills with our group home youth. 2) Indirect Contact Volunteers:
Indirect Contact volunteers provide the much needed behind-the-scenes support for our programs. Positions might include research for Advocacy, assembling training materials for foster parent certification classes, mass mailing production, or general clerical. Some of our Indirect Volunteers even help from home as "virtual volunteers". 3) Special Event Volunteers:
Volunteers for our Special Events love to party! In an effort to raise funds for our programs, Children's Bureau hosts several large special events: The Tom Zupancic Golf "Fore" Kids, The Wendy's Celebrity Cookoff (formerly the Dave Thomas Celebrity Cookoff), and a sports trivia challenge known as the Ultimate Sports Trivia Challenge. There are are also several smaller events throughout the year where volunteers are called upon to lend a hand such as appreciation picnics, recognition events, and advocacy training, to name just a few. 4) Service Group Volunteers:
Service Groups also enjoy supporting the agency through a variety of one-time service projects. Groups are from churches, schools, philanthropic orgainizations, scouts, or community outreach programs. We work with these groups to develop a project that fits their objectives and the needs of a Children's Bureau program. A project might be a supply drive, a spring spruce-up in a facility (cleaning, moving mulch, trash pick-up, etc.), creating birthday cards, or organizing a party for a group home. These projects are an opportunity to let your group's imagination and talents really shine!

Great!
For the safety of our clients, staff and volunteers, we have a volunteer application/screening
process. We encourage you to review the volunteer application requirements and process, then
come to a volunteer orientation. During the orientation we'll discuss our volunteer policies
& procedures and the volunteer opportunities within the agency.
The orientation is a way for you to learn more about Children's Bureau and how volunteers
assist in fulfilling our mission -
to help Indiana children in need.
At the orientation you'll also receive a volunteer information packet with a volunteer
application and other forms that are required to get started. A one-on-one volunteer
interview is scheduled after the orientation. This is when the completed forms are
returned and we'll discuss your specific interests and desires to get involved.
For more about this process, please visit our
Getting Started
section.
We hope you find an opportunity listed that fits your time and talents. However, if you don't
see what you're looking for, please contact us. We are always interested in exploring new
and creative ways to involve our community friends and partners!
