Volunteer Current Needs:
Project Safe Place - Swat Team
Project Safe Place (PSP) needs your help! The program is looking for assistance in three key areas:
1. Safe Place Site Maintenance - removing old signage, updating manuals, train new site managers and staff, etc.
2. Public Awareness - visit with the public and share information about PSP. Talk to children in school, visit with PTA/PTOs, coordinate a booth at various school and community functions, to name a few.
3. Fundraising - Your creativity and organizational skills are needed to develop and implement a variety of fundraising activities to support the program.
If you are interested in a project serving the run-away children of our community please contact Sarah Parsons(317) 634-5050 X212 or email

On-going Needs:
Children’s Shelter Saturday Activity Time
It’s winter time at the shelter and the kids are cooped up all day. We try to provide special activities on Saturday at 10:15 a.m., 3:15 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Each activity should be about an hour long. Volunteers may sign up to lead or help with an arts & crafts project, games, and/or story time. This is a great volunteer opportunity for a small group or several individuals who wish to brighten the day of the children in the shelter. We are scheduling for February and beyond.
Monthly Activity for Retreat - Monday Evening
Volunteers will plan and deliver a monthly activity (craft, game night, etc.) for the children in the Retreat Program. This activity happens on Monday evenings from 6pm - 7pm. We have an opening for the 4th Monday of the month. It works well to have 2-3 volunteers share this experience and the responsibility. We would like to have a long-term (6 mth/year) commitment. Volunteers must be 21 years old or older. Please contact Sarah at 634-5050, ext. 212 or sparsons@childrensbureau.org for more information.
Are you looking for a group community service project? Children's Bureau has many projects throughout the year that might just meet your needs. Give us a call at (317) 634-5050 to discuss your group's interests!
Child Care Assistant in Children's Shelter
Fridays and Saturdays at the Family Support Center Children's Shelter are very lively. We are looking for child care assistants to work directly with the children in our children's shelter and the shift supervisor. Activities might include: helping with snack time, reading stories, doing craft projects, playing games, or rocking an infant. The children in our care range in age from newborn to 17 years old, so the volunteer must be able to adjust accordingly. Times available for child care assisting are on Friday evenings until 8:00 p.m., Saturday mornings from 8:30 a.m. - Noon, and Saturday afternoon from 2:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. If you are interested in this hands-on experience, please contact Sarah at 634-5050, ext. 212 or sparsons@childrensbureau.org.
